Q: Who’s behind Whetstone Village?
A: Whetstone Village is publicly owned by Gunnison County Housing Authority and developed in partnership with Servitas to deliver high-quality workforce housing just south of Crested Butte.
Q: How many homes are planned?
A: 252 brand-new homes across studios, 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom apartments, townhomes, and select live/work options.
Q: Who can live here?
A: Homes are designed for the local workforce and will serve a variety of income levels. Final eligibility definitions will be published before applications open.
Timing & Process
Q: When do applications open?
A: The project is targeting Early 2027 for leasing. Sign up for our newsletter for first notice.
Q: When can I move in?
A: Early units will be available Summer 2027, with additional homes through 2027.
Q: How do I apply?
A: An online portal will open ahead of leasing with step-by-step guidance and document checklist.
Q: Is there an application fee?
A: Yes — Whetstone Village charges only the cost of screening (credit, background, verification). The fee is the same for all applicants, you’ll receive a receipt, and any unused amount is refunded within 20 days as required by Colorado law.
Q: Can I use my own screening report?
A: Yes. If you provide a valid portable tenant-screening report that meets Colorado standards, no application fee will be charged.
Q: When do I pay the fee and what does it cover?
A: It’s due at submission and covers processing costs only — we do not profit from it. You’ll receive an itemized disclosure or average-cost explanation with your receipt.
What’s Included & Monthly Costs
Q: Are utilities really included? What exactly?
A: Yes—utilities (water, sewer, trash, electricity) are included in rent, designed to eliminate winter heating spikes.
Home & Building Features
Q: What sustainability features will I notice day-to-day?
A: All-electric comfort with geothermal heating/cooling, A/C in all units, and EV charging onsite—meeting Zero Energy Ready performance standards.
Q: What finishes and storage are standard?
A: Designer-inspired interiors, in-home gear storage in unit, optional extra storage, package rooms, and resident lounge.
Q: Are pets allowed?
A: Yes—pet-friendly community with dog-friendly areas.
Q: Is parking available?
A: Yes. Whetstone Village will include on-site resident parking and planned EV-charging stations.
Q: Are there accessible homes?
A: Yes. Whetstone Village will include accessible homes designed to meet or exceed state and federal accessibility standards.
Q: Are washer and dyer included in the unit?
A: Yes. All units will have in-unit washer and dryer machines that are included with the rent.

Q: How close is Whetstone Village to Crested Butte?
A: Whetstone Village is located just 2 miles south of downtown Crested Butte, offering quick access to shops, restaurants, and local services.
Q: What transit options are available?
A: The community features RTA bus access, direct trail connections, and a new roundabout with a pedestrian underpass at Brush Creek and Highway 135 — making it easy to walk, bike, or ride to town.

A: Whetstone Village will be professionally managed on-site by Servitas, a national leader in community housing management.
