Whetstone Village will bring 252 brand-new, high-quality homes to the Crested Butte area, designed to meet the needs of local workers and families. The community will offer a mix of modern apartments and townhomes with a variety of layouts—from studios to 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom options. Some townhomes will even include extra space for storage or small businesses.
Whetstone Village is thoughtfully designed to fit into the natural beauty of the area, with easy access to local trails and public transportation to and from Crested Butte. Homes will be built to high standards of energy efficiency using all-electric systems powered by geothermal and air-source heat pumps—making them more sustainable and comfortable year-round.

About the Project
This project is led by Gunnison County and will remain publicly owned to ensure long-term affordability. The County has partnered with experienced developer Servitas to build and manage the community. Whetstone Village will be available to people who live and work full-time in Gunnison County. Rents will vary based on income, with homes reserved for a range of income levels to make housing more attainable for everyone.
The first homes are expected to be ready by early 2027. Stay tuned for updates on construction and how to apply for housing.

The 15-acre Whetstone parcel is located in the northern Gunnison Valley (Colorado) along Highway 135, to the south of the Town of Crested Butte. It is in proximity to Riverland Industrial Park and Bush Creek, and will build on the connectivity between Skyland, Riverbend, and Crested Butte.
